4 Fall Trends: From the Runway to Your Closet

Fashion week is something we all look forward to every year. There are the incredible runway shows, the flawless and stylish celebrity attendees, the who’s who of the fashion world, and then there’s us: watching at home from our computers wondering how the hell Marc Jacobs expects us to pull that look off this season.

Runway shows are beautiful, over-the-top presentations that can sometimes be baffling to those of us who aren’t Anna Wintour. How am I supposed to wear a bird in my hair without being stared at? How do people even walk in those shoes? But that’s the fun of fashion, you get to interpret what you like and how you would wear it. Not too savvy when it comes to fashion? Not to worry, we’ve put together a list of trends that can translate from the runway to your closet in a snap.

1. Wine

One of the most popular colors on all of the Fall/Winter runways was a deep shade of red. I, of course, like to refer to this as wine. The warm merlot shade was seen everywhere, from floor-length gowns to decadent furs. The grape color was also seen on the lips of models, as well as on their nails. Be sure to incorporate this shade into your wardrobe this season for a rich pop of color.

2. Metallic

My favorite trend on the runway has to be the metallic fabrics seen everywhere. There were the typical gold and silver metallics with lace or chiffon overlay, but what was surprising, was the deep jewel-toned metallics. Muted with dark overlay or black accents, this trend gives just enough sparkle for the cooler months of the year.

3. Baroque

According to wikipedia, “The Baroque is a period of artistic style that used exaggerated motion and clear, easily interpreted detail.” This style of garment was used a lot for Fall/Winter lines. Designers created more obvious and larger details using embroidery and embellishment. The idea behind the trend is opulence and luxury, which is easy to fake with such exaggerated details. *L2B tip: A quick and easy way to incorporate the baroque trend is with chic, chunky statement jewelry.

4. Leather

It’s no surprise that leather pants, outerwear and accessories will be popular in the colder months, but this season, designers have incorporated even more leather into their collections. We’ve seen pants that have leather accents, tops made fully of leather, even leather dresses have been showcased. Of course, we can’t all pull these over-the-top looks off, but an easy (and affordable) way to follow the leather trend is to stick with leather accented pieces. Mixed fabrics add detail and dimension to an otherwise mundane look. Try the trend out with easy accents before diving in head first.

All of these trends can easily be combined to create a flawless look. And don’t be afraid to take it too far–that’s the whole point this season!

Which fall trend is your favorite? Is there one you love that we didn’t mention?
